Nipple pain during or even after breast feeding is not normal. Although many mom’s experience pain, it is not something to be ignored. Usually the solution is as simple as changing the position of your baby on your breast and getting a better latch. If you are having pain, gently slide your finger along your breast into your baby’s mouth and break the suction before taking your baby off and getting a better latch. I explain here how to help your baby latch correctly. If changing the position does not help, contact me for an evaluation. Good latch is key for successful breastfeeding and a breastfeeding counselor can help you with that.
